Advisors at UBW are professionals in the business community that donate a week of their time to the program. Many advisors are managers, vice presidents, company officers, and business owners. Their goal is to help students grasp business principles and apply them throughout the week.

Meet Our Advisors

Alicia Hunter

O.C. Tanner Company, Client Relations Manager
Alicia is a Client Relations Manager at O.C. Tanner Company. Her main focus is on Process Lean Principles, and Improvements. She has vast experience in Data Collection, Reporting, Kaizen Blitz's, Training, and gaining efficiencies. Alicia began her career with Tanner in 1991. Before moving into an office role, she was a valued member of the Manufacturing Quality Team, corporate Training, and Striking Department.

"Lish" is the favorite aunt to nine nieces and nephews. Alicia enjoys water sports, snow skiing, golfing, and traveling to warm places. She is a "people person" who loves to watch others grow. She loves to work with individuals to help them find solutions that will increase their confidence and esteem. Her life goal is to have fun and love people along the way.

Bryan McCleary

The Boeing Company, Sr. Engineer
Bryan works at the Boeing company's Salt Lake City fabrication facility where he is the lead engineer for the 787 Flight Deck design group. Bryan and his group are responsible for the design of the Flight Deck structure for Boeing's newest airplane the 787. In addition to his current position as Lead Engineer Bryan has worked as Program Manager and a Liaison Engineer. Bryan received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University. He started his career in 1987 with McDonnell Douglas aircraft, which merged with the Boeing Company in 1997.

Along with his love of airplanes Bryan is an avid water-skier and wake boarder. Bryan likes to work out and swim to keep in shape; he also likes to play racquetball and basketball. In his spare time Bryan rebuilds cars with this father and works in his yard fighting the battle against the weeds.

Mandy Pace

Mountain America Credit union, Membership Development Officer
Mandy has been with mountain America Credit Union for 18 years, spending 5 years in branches, then working with training, and finally in her current position in Branch Administration. She is responsible for growing the membership of 60+ branches covering Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico.  

Mandy currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Salt Lake Community College Alumni Association. She lives in Farmington with her husband, Darin and their five children. Mandy enjoys long walks on the beach, origami, bull riding, habitat for brine shrimp, hearts, unicorns and root canals at the dentist.

Tyler Dallas

Community Affairs Director, Qwest Communications
Co-Owner, Cold Creek Wellness Center
For the past seven years Tyler has been responsible for representing Qwest’s vision and values in Utah and working with community, government and civic leaders throughout the state. He also manages Qwest’s charitable contributions and employee volunteer projects. 

In May 2009, pursuing his dream of owning his own business Tyler opened the Cold Creek Wellness Center, an addiction rehabilitation center. The Cold Creek Wellness Center provides treatment for a wide variety of addictions from drugs and alcohol to eating disorders.  

Tyler currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Utah Nonprofits Association, English Skills Learning Center, and Greater Salt Lake Chapter of the American Red Cross. He also volunteers for the Utah Food Bank, United Way, and the Boys and Girls Club.
 Tyler earned a BA in Finance from the University of Utah, David Eccles School of Business.

Tyler and his wife, Kara, live in Sandy and have 4 children. He is a Taurus an in his spare time enjoys traveling, golfing, snorkeling, gardening, boating, and playing with is kids.
 

Dennis Flynn

Attorney, Law Offices of Dennis Flynn, PLLC
Dennis Flynn is an alumnus of Utah Business Week.  He graduated in international relations and business management from Brigham Young University, and from the University Of Kentucky College Of Law, where he served as the Notes Editor of the Kentucky Law Journal.  Dennis has practiced in commercial litigation, insurance defense, transportation and employment law, representing and advising businesses, government entities, and associations on a variety of regulatory, compliance, and litigation matters.   

Dennis and his wife, Sarah, reside in Salt Lake City.  He enjoys running, travel, tennis, cooking, reading and music.

Rachel Lewis

Corporate Communications Director, WCF
Rachel is the Director or Corporate Communications for Workers Compensation Fund (WCF), the largest workers' compensation insurance comany in the state of Utah. She graduated from BYU with a BA in Public Relations and has an MBA from the University of Utah, David Eccles School of Business. She is a member of the United Way Young Leaders and the University of Utah Hospital Foundation's Marketing Committee.

Rachel loves living in Utah, but enjoys jumping out of the state any time she can to travel. She'e been to over 40 countries and hopes to visit a couple new places this year. She also enjoys running and shopping.

Kellen Jones

VP, Business Dev. Group, Private Capital Group
Kellen Jones is the Vice President of Business Development and Collateral Disposition at Private Capital Group - a private loan servicing company based in Alpine, Utah. After his start in the financial world as a Mortgage Loan Specialist and seminar presenter, Jones has spent the last 5 years helping start-up companies and developers across North America obtain seed capital and development financing. Jones is a Managing Member or Partner in several other diversified ventures in the energy, real estate, precious metals, and capital industries.

Jones obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Interpersoanl Communication and Broadcasting from Southern Utah University, where he held several leadership roles in student government and served as a Presidential Ambassador. During his years at college, he performed across the country, Mexico, and throughout the Caribbean as a lead member of the premier song and dance group "Acclamation". Jones was the Student Body President at Wasatch High School and served as a student ambassador to the Salt Lake Winter Olympic Committee.

With a love for acting, Jones has been featured with speaking roles in television and film productions. Jones was a graduate of UBW and later became an intern for the Salt Lake Chamber, responsible for helping organize UBW. He was an all-state athlete and held several lead roles in high school and community productions. Jones will celebrated his 5th anniversary in March with his sweetheart Desirae. He and his wife have 2 children - Elle (almost 3) and Maddix (15 months). Jones enjoys running, red rocks, writing and playing music, and time outdoors with his family.

Ryan Reeder

HR Professional
Ryan Reeder is a Human Resources Professional with experience in Talent Acquisition, College Relations, Employee Engagement, and Leadership Development. He has worked for several companies most recently with Regence BlueCross BlueShield as Regional Manager of Human Resources. Ryan currently works as a Consultant helping companies identify and create a meaningful candidate and on-boarding experience. He also works to help companies create strategic workforce plans, compensation policies, and trains managers to be strong leaders.

In addition to the Utah Busines Week Board of Directors, Ryan also sits on the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and chairs their legislative commitee. He is a graduate of Utah State University where he received a dual degree in Spanish Languages and Business Administration.

Ryan enjoys time with his wife, Marie, and four children. He also enjoys cycling, golfing, and coaches soccer. He recetnly completed the Tour of Park City, a one day 175 mile bike race and finished in just over 10 hours. In his spare time he likes to read David Baldacci novels, and on occasion will get some sleep.

Joel Nance

Ulrich Realtors, Inc.
Joel Nance is currently working as a licensed real estate sales agent for Ulrich Realtors, Inc. in Salt Lake City. Joel received his real estate license in April of 2009. For the prior 22 years, Joel worked as Manager of Operations for JP Morgan Real Estate - Mountain States Division located in Salt Lake City. Joel started his banking career with Valley National Bank of Arizona in 1983 working as a bill collector. The following ten years, Joel worked in the Special Credits Department, specializing in Other Real Estate Owned (OREO) properties and Bankruptcy accounts. Since 1995, his interests have been in both fields of commercial and residential real estate lending, working as a underwriter, loan analyst, relationship banker, and operations manager.

Joel has been involved in many local community and youth programs. He served several years as the Varsity Council Program Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America, Great Salt Lake Council, and is a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. Most of all, Joel enjoys spending time with his wife Kim, four children, a son-in-law, and two great looking grandchildren. His interests are in snowboarding, water-skiing, basketball, tennis and diving. However, now with physical activity becoming more of a challenge, he looks forward more and more to those precious minutes where he can relax by running, fishing, hiking, a good round of golf, or just sitting on a cabin porch reading a good book.

Heidi Walker

Salt Lake Chamber, Chief Operating Officer
Heidi Walker returned to the Salt Lake Chamber in April 2010 after three years in the nation's capital where she worked for AMG, Inc. as the Vice President of Operations. She concurrently served as the executive director of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation.

Prior to her work in Washington, D.C., Heidi served in key high-level management positions at the Salt Lake Chamber including seven years as vice president. The Salt Lake Chamber is the largest and longest-standing statewide business association and Utah's Business Leader. Representing one in every three jobs in the state, the Chamber stands as the voice of business, supports members' success and champions community prosperity.

Before joining the Chamber, Heidi worked at Broadcast International, a telecommunications and technology service provider to Fortune 500 companies. She managed the Client Services department, working with high-level clients to provide advertising and communication networks.

Heidi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She is fluent in Italian, comfortable with Sapnish and has studied French. She is active in the community and has participated on a number of boards including Discovery Gateway, Junior Achievement and The Leonardo.

She enjoys spending time with her family, playing golf, traveling and oil painting. She has a passion for outdoor activities, especially mountain and road biking, hiking, snowshoeing and wakeboarding. Heidi and her husband, Nico Walker, live in Sandy.
